PVC Solvent Cement

Solvent cement does not glue PVC so much as weld it: the solvent softens both surfaces and the two fuse into one piece of plastic as it flashes off. That is why a correctly made solvent joint is as strong as the pipe itself. Brush an even coat on the pipe end and inside the fitting socket, push home with a quarter turn, and hold for thirty seconds. Allow fifteen minutes before handling the line and twenty-four hours before pressure testing. Use the regular grade for UPVC and the separate CPVC grade for hot water lines; the two are not interchangeable.
